The arrests were announced by Rabbis for Peace, the organization to which the rabbis belong, which identifies the American journalist as Ayelet Waldman.

On its social network account, Rabbis for Peace denounces that "the Israeli government is using starvation as a weapon of war against 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip".

"This manufactured starvation follows decades of forced displacement, military occupation and communal subjugation by the Israeli government," the activists add.

The Israeli war cabinet approved earlier this month the opening of the Ashdod port and the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip as a measure to increase the flow of humanitarian aid, but these entries are subject to enormous restrictions.

Israel launched a military offensive against the Gaza Strip on October 7, after the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas attacked the south of the Israeli territory and caused about 1,200 deaths and kidnapped more than two hundred people.

The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has already caused more than 34,300 deaths, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health, which has ruled the small Palestinian enclave since 2007.
