A charity has offered to take in the horses that galloped through the City of London on Wednesday and were left injured.

Five horses from the Household Cavalry bolted through central London, England, after throwing their riders to the ground during an exercise.

Following the incident, an Army source said two of the horses had been injured and one was being treated at a veterinary hospital, while the others had returned to their barracks although they were being closely monitored by a medical team.

"There were five horses. All of them have been recovered. Three of them are fine, two of them have got quite serious injuries and we will continue to monitor their condition," Armed Forces Minister James Heappey told Sky News.

But regardless of their future, it appears the horses will not be short of a place to stay, with animal welfare charity The Horse Trust already offering them a home.

"Should the decision be made that they are not fit to return to work, we would be delighted to offer them a place at our sanctuary," the charity's head of communications, Jessica Tallman, said.
