French city 'hires' two sheep to tend to home (and cheer up)
The 'hiring' aims to maintain the green space of the nursing home, to offer residents "an activity to combat cognitive decline" and "give the nursing home another look and open it up to the outside".

According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the local authority decided to invest in eco-grazing, a secular practice that consists of maintaining green spaces in an ecological way, allowing herbivores to graze and reducing the use of machines and chemical products.
The sheep - a male and a female - arrived at the Simone de Beauvoir public home, where they were welcomed by young and old, and will remain there "for a period of one month before returning" to the "rest of the flock", explained the local authority.
The goal is to maintain the green space of the retirement home, offer residents "an activity to combat cognitive decline" and "give a different look to the retirement home and open it up to the outside".
During the stay of the sheep, which have not yet been named, it is expected that several kindergartens and schools will visit the retirement home to see the animals.
The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Aquitaine Breeds Conservatory, which works to protect and promote regional breeding.
The commune of Saint-Médard-en-Jalles has about 30,000 inhabitants and is the largest in the metropolis of Bordeaux, with 85 km², of which three quarters are covered by green spaces.
