António Tavares praises the "considerable" turnout in the FC Porto elections
António Tavares, candidate for the presidency of the FC Porto General Assembly Bureau (MAG) from André Villas-Boas' list, congratulated today the "very considerable" turnout of FC Porto members in the elections for the club's social bodies.

"We already have a very considerable number of members, which means that they are very attentive to the club's life, concerned, and, therefore, they are participating. It is an initiative that should be a party that brings together Porto fans and is also civic. Therefore, regardless of some difficulties at the start, we hope that everything goes well", said the candidate of list B.
The former PSD deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, between 1985 and 1991, the current provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto did not show any doubts that the participation record in electoral acts of the 'blue and whites' will be promptly broken - the mark to be exceeded is 10,731 members, in 1988.
"I have no doubts about it. Participation, at this moment, is extremely high and, therefore, it is a great mobilization of Porto fans", he sentenced.
Regarding the delay in opening the doors, by about half an hour, António Tavares did not want to detail the specific reasons, attributing responsibilities to unspecified "administrative and bureaucratic" issues, but he was satisfied with their resolution.
"I did not want to feed any kind of controversy at this time of day. I could say that they were incidents resulting from some administrative and bureaucratic misunderstandings that were resolved, to which List B contributed to their resolution. In other words, we were not an obstacle", he explained.
Finally, the member of list B, led by former FC Porto coach André Villas-Boas, expressed his wish that the results be known as soon as possible.
"I will follow the election day here, I am also a representative of List B, being by Dr. Lourenço Pinto's side to help in a constructive way, so that, even before midnight, Porto fans can know the results in their homes, with peace of mind", he revealed.
The elections of the social bodies of FC Porto for the four-year period 2024-2028 are disputed by three candidacies, led by Pinto da Costa (list A), André Villas-Boas (B), former coach of the football team, and Nuno Lobo (C), businessman and teacher, also including an independent list to the Superior Council led by Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).
The electoral act will take place until 8:00 pm today, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at a time when Pinto da Costa is serving his 15th consecutive term, since 1982, and holds the status of leader with the most titles and longevity in world football.
