Official: Fabio Cannavaro is the new Udinese coach
Former World Cup-winning footballer Fabio Cannavaro will take over as coach of Udinese until the end of the season, the club said on Monday, hours after announcing the sacking of Gabriele Cioffi.

"Udinese are pleased to welcome the world champion and 2006 Ballon d'Or winner, who will lead the team until the end of the season. He signed a contract until June 30, 2024", the club specified on its official website.
After adding just one point in the last four games in the Italian League, Udinese are in a complicated position in the standings, as they are 17th, with the same 28 points as Frosinone, 18th and third to last, in a relegation position.
"There is no need to recall the feats on the pitch of one of the greatest players in the history of Italian football. Cannavaro is a young and prepared coach, with international status and who has already had the opportunity to prove his abilities abroad", praises the team from Udine, north-eastern Italy, near Slovenia.
Cannavaro, 50, began his coaching career in China, where he coached Guangzhou Evergrande twice, Tianjin Tianhai and the national team of that country, having also spent a season with the Saudis of Al Nassr, a team currently coached by Luís Castro and in which the Portuguese internationals Cristiano Ronaldo and Otávio play.
Last season, he had his first experience in charge of an Italian team, in this case Benevento, from Serie B.
As a footballer, Cannavaro was world champion for Italy, in the 2006 World Cup, in a career in which he played more than 800 games for Napoli, Parma, Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid, Al Ahli and 'squadra azzurra'.
The former centre-back, elected best player in the world in 2006, will have his brother Paolo Cannavaro as one of his assistants at Udinese.
