After two editions -- the Tokyo2020 and Beijing2022 Winter Games -- where the ceremony was affected by Covid-19, the lighting of the flame regained its symbolism and grandeur, with more than a thousand people in attendance, including the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.

Near the 2,600-year-old ruins of the Temple of Hera, the 'High Priestess', played by Greek actress Mary Mina and dressed in traditional Ancient Greek attire, lit the pyre using the sun and a cylindrical mirror, a process that was already known to the ancient Greeks.

At the end of the ceremony, the 'High Priestess' placed the flame on one of the stones of the ruins of the temple of the ancient city that is considered the birthplace of the Ancient Games and lit the torch that was in the hands of Stefanos Douskos.

The Greek rower, who won a gold medal at Tokyo2020, began the torch's journey with an olive branch in his hand and after releasing a white dove, a symbol of peace, then passing it on to former swimmer Laure Manaudou, after passing by the monument to Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympic Games.

The Olympic 400-meter freestyle champion in Athens2004 will be the first French person to carry the Olympic torch for the Paris2024 Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.

The flame's journey will now travel through Greece for 11 days before departing for Paris, on a path that will pass through several historic French sites, as well as French Polynesia, where the surfing events will be held.
