The statement sent to newsrooms evokes Bartolomeu Costa Cabral's academic career since he studied at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (where he would later teach), but also his professional career, with his public projects for educational and housing institutions, namely the "emblematic Bloco das Águas Livres (1959), in Lisbon, which he developed in co-authorship with Nuno Teotónio Pereira".

Bartolomeu Costa Cabral also had a relevant trade union activity, having been a member of the board of the National Union of Architects and of the Portuguese section of the International Union of Architects.

The Order of Architects has also expressed its "great regret" at the death of the architect born on February 8, 1929, who worked with some of the most renowned names in Portuguese architecture, such as Nuno Portas, Manuel Tainha or Gonçalo Byrne.

In a note sent to Lusa, the president of the organization, Avelino Oliveira, pointed out that the work and legacy of Bartolomeu Costa Cabral "represent a very strong mark on Portuguese architecture and on successive generations of architects".

Among the main works of Bartolomeu Costa Cabral, the Order also mentioned the Castelo Primary School (Lisbon, 1960), the Quinta das Conchas metro station (1998-2002) and the Olivais social housing blocks (Lisbon, 1961, with Nuno Teotónio Pereira and Nuno Portas).

Bartolomeu Costa Cabral received several awards throughout his career, such as the Eugénio dos Santos award in 1997 (with Nuno Teotónio Pereira for the remodeling of the Taborda Theater in Lisbon), the Raul Lino architecture award in 1978 (for the CGD agency in Sintra), the honorable mention of the Valmor award in 2009 (individual housing in Travessa da Oliveira, in Lisbon), and was distinguished as Grand-Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique (2022).
