April 25 Parade Was an "Impressive Celebration of Democracy"

Former President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, considered on Friday that the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, not only in Portugal but also abroad, show that "freedom and democracy draw the common home in which we can all take refuge" and that the people are "willing to defend it".
"The march down Avenida da Liberdade, yesterday, in Lisbon, was an impressive celebration of the 50 years of democracy", the socialist began by saying in a post on the social network Facebook, emphasising that "no less impressive were the commemorations that occurred (and continue to occur) throughout the country and abroad".
For Santos Silva, "from a symbolic and institutional point of view, the ceremony at the CCB, associating the newly independent countries in the wake of the 25th of April", also "was no less relevant than the session in Parliament".
"All this shows that freedom and democracy draw the common home in which we can all take refuge. And that we are willing to defend it", he stressed.
It should be stressed that the 50th anniversary of democracy celebration brought hundreds of thousands of people to the streets, who filled Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, to celebrate the 25th of April in the traditional commemorative parade.
