"The lack of available flights between Nuremberg and Ponta Delgada on Ryanair's portal raises serious concerns about the cancellation of the operation planned for 2024", said the socialist deputy in the Azorean parliament Carlos Silva, quoted in a statement.

The PS/Açores argues that, in view of the "negotiations between the Regional Government and Ryanair, it is necessary to clarify whether there has been any setback or change of plans on the part of the low-cost airline".

The socialists submitted a request to the Legislative Assembly asking for "urgent clarification" from the Azorean executive.

"The deputies of the PS/Açores parliamentary group request urgent clarification from the Regional Government of the Azores. The questions include the reason for the cancellation, the official communication on the matter and the financial details of the agreement between the Regional Government or Visit Azores and Ryanair", reads the press release.

Carlos Silva warned that the absence of the connection between Ponta Delgada and Nuremberg is "yet another setback in the tourist development and mobility of the Azoreans", recalling that "in a few months the Azores have already seen Ryanair's operation significantly reduced".

"It is essential to ensure transparency and responsibility in this process, taking into account the impact that these decisions have on the connectivity and economic development of our region", stressed the deputy.

On September 1, 2023, the Government of the Azores announced that Ryanair would continue to fly to the archipelago with around 2,032 annual flights.

"In addition to Lisbon/Ponta Delgada and Porto/Ponta Delgada connections, as well as Lisbon/Terceira and Porto/Terceira, there will also be connections to Stansted (London, United Kingdom) and Nuremberg (Germany) during the summer, which already show prospects for reinforcement in 2025 compared to the operation planned for 2024", the executive said at the time, revealing that 13 weekly connections between Ponta Delgada and Terceira with Lisbon, seven with Porto, one with Stansted and another with Nuremberg were scheduled for the summer.
