European elections. Rui Moreira declines invitation to be number two on the AD list
The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, declined the invitation to be the second candidate on the list of the Democratic Alliance (AD) for the upcoming European elections on June 9, a source close to the mayor told Lusa.

The same source told Lusa that the leader of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, formally invited Rui Moreira to the second position on the AD list for the European elections on Sunday night, but he declined.
Rui Moreira was pointed out by several media outlets as the most likely head of the list of the Democratic Alliance coalition (PSD, CDS-PP and PPM).
An official source from the AD told Lusa that the journalist and television commentator Sebastião Bugalho will be the head of the list for the European elections.
On Sunday, in the commentary space of CNN Portugal, Rui Moreira admitted interest, as well as concern about the European project.
"The issue of Europe is something that interests me and that mainly concerns me. We all have to worry about Europe and the European project. The European project was the great project of the 20th century for Europeans after two devastating wars. At this moment we need to fight for the Europe we want, a Europe that is threatened by wars, and for that reason, I also confess, without hesitation, that it is a project that, in some way, attracts me," he said.
Today, members and mayors of the PSD Porto, including Vladimiro Feliz, who was the social democratic candidate for the Porto City Council, demonstrated today against the intention of the national leadership to indicate Rui Moreira as head of the list for the European elections.
The subscribers considered it to be "a betrayal of the people of Porto, the members, supporters and mayors elected by the PSD", stating that they have no doubt that "it will leave deep marks on the trust that the people of Porto have in the PSD".
