The protest is being organized by the student group in defense of Palestine, and in the letter that they will hand over to the rector's office they demand the end of partnerships with Israeli universities.
Speaking to Lusa, the movement's spokesperson, Bárbara Molnar, explained that the protest aims to deliver to the rector's office "a demand to break off all academic, sports, funding and knowledge exchange relationships with Israeli institutions".
"We know that the university supports the ideological apparatus that allows this genocide to continue", added the student, defending "the importance of the university taking a stand to pressure the governments of both Portugal and the European Union, and also the importance of students assuming this role in history, politics and society".
Asked to clarify the accusations, Bárbara Molnar replied: "the production of knowledge, the research, the placing of brains and the production of technology at the service of companies, for example, of drones, which will transform that into weaponry and into ways to further oppress the Palestinian people".
According to the spokesperson, the protest is scheduled to last until 8:00 p.m., and they hope to be able to deliver the letter to the rector's office at a meeting scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
