In the note, GMG pays, in the name of all workers, a public tribute to Pedro Cruz, a victim of lung cancer, at the age of 53.

"His passing is a loss for journalism and for all civil society", the administration emphasizes, highlighting "the high professional quality" of the journalist, currently in the management of GMG and who was executive director of TSF, the group's radio station.

In the note, GMG highlights that the journalist "enjoyed widespread admiration, both professionally and personally".

Thanking Pedro Cruz's contribution to the group's companies and titles, "it recognizes the legacy he left to journalism in Portugal".

"In addition to being recognized as an excellent professional, his colleagues keep the memory of him as an upright, loyal and affable person, he was courageous and committed so that everyone had decent conditions, helpful and willing to share his experience", describes the administration.

Born in Póvoa de Varzim, Pedro Cruz began his career at the age of 21, on local radio stations, but gained prominence in the service of SIC, where he worked for more than two decades and held the positions of coordinator of the Porto editorial staff and deputy director of information.

The areas of politics and international affairs were those that he followed most closely, having been present in various situations of conflict and international tension, namely Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti, Lebanon and, more recently, Ukraine, where he was sent in the first weeks of the Russian invasion.

Pedro Cruz's wake will take place today, from 11:00 pm, in Aveleda (Vila do Conde) and the funeral will take place on Monday, at 4:00 pm, in the Mother Church of Póvoa de Varzim.
