Irish tourist drowns on Inatel beach in Albufeira

A 52-year-old Irish tourist drowned on Inatel beach, in Albufeira, on Saturday afternoon.
The man, who was struggling in the water, was rescued unconscious by lifeguards from Pescadores beach, as confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto by the commander of the Portimão Local Maritime Police Command, Eduardo Luís Pousada Godinho.
Despite resuscitation manoeuvres, it was not possible to reverse the situation, and death was declared on the spot, according to the same source.
Two other people who tried to help the man were also rescued, but were not injured.
The alert was received at 12:54 pm.
In addition to the Maritime Police, whose psychology department was activated, elements of the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters and INEM were on the scene.
