A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday at Lisbon Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking. According to the Public Security Police (PSP), the individual attempted to bring a kilogram of cocaine into Portugal.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Friday, the authority reported that the suspect concealed the product "in the form of an insole" in his sneakers when he was approached by the agents.

In addition, "he also had more product concealed inside his underwear", where he had "cut a hole to conceal the drug", which was later sewn up to "maintain its natural shape and thus go unnoticed".

In total, the suspect had more than a kilogram of cocaine - the equivalent of five thousand individual doses.

After being taken to court, he was subjected to the preventive detention measure.
