Criminal wanted by Brazilian justice caught in Lisbon

Everything indicates that the man had been living in Portugal for three years. The detainee will now be extradited to serve the 10-year prison sentence to which he was sentenced for international drug trafficking.

A 42-year-old man, who was a fugitive from Brazilian justice, was arrested in Lisbon last Monday, April 1, for extradition.

In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reveals that the citizen, of foreign nationality, sentenced to 10 years, two months and 15 days in prison in Brazil for international drug trafficking, has allegedly been living in Portugal since 2021.

In May 2008, when he was returning from Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, the man was caught at the Rio de Janeiro airport, in Brazil, with 12 kilos of drugs, including ecstasy, LSD and Skunk.

The criminal has already been presented to the Lisbon Court of Appeal and is now awaiting the further terms of the extradition process, being subject to the coercive measure of preventive detention.
