"Hitler and the Nazis of our time are the murderers who killed more than 15,000 children in Gaza. Netanyahu, like the criminals before him, has shamefully written his name in history as the butcher of Gaza," Erdogan said in a speech in Ankara.

"Nobody can expect us to remain silent in the face of genocide," added the Turkish head of state, who insisted that for Turkey, the Islamist organization Hamas is not a terrorist group, but rather "the Palestinian national resistance."

In a reaction, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated that Erdogan is "disgracing the Turkish people."

"Come back to reality and stop dragging Turkey to dark places: you are disgracing Ataturk's legacy and the Turkish people!" Katz wrote on his Twitter account, in response to Erdogan's attacks on Netanyahu.

According to the Israeli minister, Erdogan "dreams of re-establishing the Ottoman Empire and today continues to attack and slander Israel."

Last weekend, the Turkish president received the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniye, in Istanbul, whose organization is classified as a terrorist group by the European Union, the United States, and Israel.

Erdogan accused Israel of "ruthlessly killing" 35,000 inhabitants of Gaza since October 7th, the date on which it launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip following a terrorist attack by the Islamist group Hamas in Israeli territory that killed around 1,200 people and took 250 hostages.

The Turkish leader has criticized Israel since the beginning of the war and on March 5th accused the Netanyahu government of committing "genocide against the Palestinian people" in the Gaza Strip and has compared the prime minister to the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler on several occasions.

Israel recalled its ambassador to Ankara last October after Erdogan compared the situation in Gaza to the Holocaust, and Turkey recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv for consultations in November.
