Biden charged that his predecessor created “a health care crisis” for women across the country.

Biden’s campaign event at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa put the president at the center of the latest battle over abortion restrictions.
A six-week abortion ban in the state is set to take effect May 1, as Florida voters prepare to weigh in on a ballot initiative that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.
Biden said millions of women are facing “pain and cruelty.”
“But it doesn’t have to be this way. We can stop it. When you vote, you can stop it,” he said.
The president is seeking to harness growing anger over abortion restrictions not only to boost his own reelection prospects in swing states he won in 2020, but also to go on offense against Trump in states the presumptive Republican nominee carried four years ago.
One of those states is Florida, where Biden lost to Trump by 3.3 percentage points.
On Tuesday, he recounted the growing clinical concerns from women in the two years since the Supreme Court ended federal abortion protections.
“There’s one person who is responsible for this nightmare,” Biden said. “And he’s admitted it and boasted about it — Donald Trump,” the president added.
Biden suggested that Trump, who has been vocal about his views on abortion and has said lately that it should be left up to the states, is worried that voters will now hold him accountable.
“Folks, the bad news for Trump is we’re going to hold him accountable,” Biden said.
Meanwhile, advocates on the ground say support for abortion access transcends party lines. They are trying to keep the issue as nonpartisan as possible as they work to get at least 60% of the vote on the ballot measure.
