The small wooden boat, which appeared to be in poor condition, was equipped with a makeshift sail and was packed with passengers.
A crew from the Carnival Cruise Line ship, which was en route to Honduras, assisted in the rescue of the Cubans around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
All 27 migrants were brought aboard the cruise ship, where they were given food and examined by medical staff.
The cruise ship’s itinerary was not affected.
This is not the first time the 70,000-ton ship has made such a rescue, Travel and Tour World reported. A mariner was rescued by the ship’s crew in 2019, and 20 stranded people were brought aboard the vessel in two separate incidents in 2022, both near Cuba.
