US aid to Ukraine will 'save thousands and thousands of lives'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday welcomed a nearly $61 billion aid package approved by the U.S. House of Representatives, saying it “will save thousands and thousands of lives.”

"The life-saving aid bill passed today by the House of Representatives will prevent the spread of war, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both our countries to be stronger," Zelensky wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter), while expressing his "gratitude" to the US lawmakers and, in particular, to the speaker of the lower house, Republican Mike Johnson.
The aid package had been blocked for several months due to a group of Republican congressmen close to former President Donald Trump.
"Democracy and freedom will always have global significance and will never fail as long as America helps protect them," he added.
The Ukrainian president said he hopes the aid package will soon receive Senate approval and go to US President Joe Biden for final approval.
