Ukraine: NATO allies have more air defence systems available
NATO secretary-general said today that the countries of the political-military bloc have identified anti-aircraft defense systems that can be made available to Ukraine and said that he expects "announcements soon".

"President [Volodymyr] Zelensky updated us on the developments in the conflict, including the urgent needs for air defence (...). NATO has mapped the capabilities that are available in different countries and there are systems that can be made available", said Jens Stoltenberg, in a press conference, at the headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance, in Brussels.
"I expect announcements on air defence capabilities soon," admitted the representative, at the end of a ministerial meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, a body created almost a year ago to bring Kyiv closer to the Atlantic Alliance, while the country's accession to the organisation still has no set schedule.
The President of Ukraine has reinforced in recent weeks the request for air defence systems because of Moscow's successive attacks with missiles and 'drones' (unmanned aircraft) against Ukrainian civil and military infrastructures.
Germany recently announced that it will send another MIM-104 Patriot to the country invaded by Russia for more than two years, but NATO's secretary-general said that "there are others" systems available.
Jens Stoltenberg also said he expects the approval of the support package by the United States "without delay", since the US Congress has given a sign in that direction.
A vote is scheduled for Saturday in the House of Representatives (lower house of Congress, with a Republican majority) that could unlock an aid package worth 60 billion dollars (more than 56 billion euros).
Kyiv considers this aid as critical to combat the Russian invasion.
