According to the statement released after the Council of Ministers’ meeting, the Government "decided to send the 2024 Report on the National Reform Programme to the Economic and Social Council for its opinion, to the Assembly of the Republic for its knowledge and subsequent submission to the European Commission".
"Given the document's eminently retrospective content and the deadline for its submission, arising from the European Union rules still applicable this year, the Government opted to submit the report without any substantial changes, compared to what was prepared by the services, under the guidance of the previous Government", the statement reads.
The 2023 PNR presents the Portuguese Government's medium-term strategy for the country's development, describing the public policies that respond to the main economic and social challenges framed by the Main Options 2022-20261 and in line with the proposal for 2023-2026.
The document also aims to demonstrate the convergence of the policy options that guide action at national level with the constraints identified by the European Commission in light of the country-specific recommendations within the framework of the European Semester cycles from 2019 to 2022.
