From 30 million euros in 2016 to eight in 2024. This was the trajectory of Renato Sanches' market value, according to the specialized website Transfermarkt. Values that allow us to see how the Portuguese international's career is in decline, at the age of 26 (he will turn 27 in August). 

No one takes away the records he achieved at the beginning of his career - he is still the youngest player to score in Euro'2016, despite being a midfielder, he won the best player of the tournament award and the Golden Boy of the year mentioned. 

He was sold for 35 million euros plus 45 for objectives, to Bayern Munich. He ended up being bought by Lille, three years later, in 2019, for 20 million. There, he managed to stand out and be sold to Paris Saint-Germain, in 2022, for 15 million. But, once again, he did not assert himself.

He played 27 games for the Parisians, suffered injuries, and ended up being loaned this season to AS Roma, in what was, perhaps, the worst season of his career. He played 12 games, playing only 4% of the Italians' total competition minutes. The Portuguese international is out of the accounts for Euro'2024 and has not played for the national team since November 2021, almost three years. 

Will Renato Sanches' 'roller coaster' still return to the top?

Will he be back in time to leave his mark on the 'high wheel' of European football? At the age of 26, maybe yes. But there remain questions about the player's condition (who was highly praised for the physical aspect of his game).

In the last four seasons, Renato has always missed more than 18 games due to injury. This one almost broke the record (23). When he was at Swansea, with Carlos Carvalhal, he had a 109-day injury, which started a real 'ordeal'. So many years later, it is still the debut season at Benfica, in 2015/16, when Renato participated in more games (35). 

With 19 titles in his career, an enviable number, Renato Sanches has achieved what many have only dreamed of. But, after the dazzling start of his career, the ex-Benfica.  With a high salary - 5 million euros per year, 417 thousand per month, according to the French newspaper Foot Mercato and contract until 2027. A high salary, at a time when the midfielder is associated with Benfica.
