The end of an era. Iker Muniain leaves Athletic Bilbao after 15 seasons

After Raúl García, this Wednesday it was Iker Muniain's turn to announce his decision to leave Athletic Bilbao, the only club he has ever represented throughout his professional football career, at the end of the season.

"I arrived as a child at 12 years old, and today, almost two decades later, I announce my departure at the end of the season, after 15 years in the first team. I am leaving happy, with the dream of having lifted the much-desired 25th Cup title and having taken the Gabarra out, 45 years later," he said.

The forward made his debut for the historic Basque team on July 30, 2009, in the 0-1 defeat to Young Boys in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League, at just 16 years of age.

Since then, he has been called up to participate in a total of 557 official matches, in which he has scored 75 goals and won two titles. These were the Spanish Super Cup in 2020 and the Copa del Rey less than a month ago.
