"We've been working on defensive stability all week. We have to score and we have to keep a clean sheet. On Thursday, we'll do both", said Jean-Louis Gasset, at a press conference, acknowledging the value of Benfica, who go into the game with a 2-1 advantage.

The Marseille coach, who has lost the last three games in the French league, and has a total of five consecutive defeats, considered it essential that the team combines defensive security with offensive character: "We can't be spectators, we have to do our part in the game, we have an obligation to score".

"We need to find the balance between attacking and defending, and stay very focused, something that didn't always happen in the first leg. They have strong players on the counterattack. We're going to have to be there when they lose the ball", he said, recalling that Marseille will play "against a team that was in the quarter-finals of last year's Champions League".

For his part, Argentine defender Leonardo Balerdi considered that the essential thing is that the French team manages to maintain the rhythm they had in the last half hour of the game played at the Estádio da Luz, a week ago, at the Vélodrome.

"They started well. We ended up understanding how they were playing, and we finished the game very well. We have to keep what we did for 30 minutes throughout the game", said Balerdi, in an analysis of the first leg, in which Benfica scored in the 16th and 52nd minutes, and conceded a goal in the 67th.

Leonardo Balerdi chose his compatriot Di María as one of Benfica's most dangerous players, and highlighted the quality of the Portuguese champions in set pieces.

The defender recalled that the French team "is not doing very well" in the French league, in which it occupies the ninth position (with a game in arrears, which can put it in seventh), and guaranteed the commitment of all players in the Europa League.

Benfica and Marseille face each other on Thursday, at 9:00 pm local time (8:00 pm in Lisbon), at the Vélodrome Stadium, in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, which will be refereed by German Félix Zwayer.
