Germán Burgos broke his silence on Tuesday after being fired from the Spanish television station Movistar Plus+ for a comment he made about Lamine Yamal before the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. The former assistant coach to Diego Simeone at Atlético de Madrid was previewing the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at the Parc des Princes when he said that if the Spanish international did not "succeed, he could always end up juggling at a traffic light." Now, in an interview with Radio Marca, he put everything on the table: "The comment was about the player's talent and skill. People didn't hear the full audio. In the audio, you can hear an affectionate tone. Besides, I break with humor." "If any communications director or any faculty wants to analyze this topic... I'll just tell them that they call me 'Mono' ['Monkey' in Portuguese]. My nickname breaks with everything that has been said and expressed," he added. The former Argentine goalkeeper also said that he contacted Lamine Yamal directly to clarify what had happened: "I sent him a message to let him know that I only wanted to give him a compliment."
