Thomas Tuchel has claimed that Glenn Nyberg, the Swedish referee at the centre of Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, admitted he should have awarded a second penalty to the visitors.
Harry Kane had put Bayern 2-1 up from the spot on 32 minutes but another contentious incident occurred on the hour mark. Referee Nyberg blew his whistle and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya passed the ball out to Gabriel, who handled the ball before booting it back to his English number one in bizarre circumstances. "I think the referee was not brave enough to give a clear penalty in a very, very strange and obvious situation," Tuchel told TNT Sports after the game. "But he admitted on the pitch that he saw it, and that in a quarter-final it's not enough to give a penalty for a mistake like this from a young boy. So he admits that he saw the mistake that the player did. It's a bit frustrating." Arsenal and Bayern Munich drew 2-2, while Real Madrid and Manchester City played out a 3-3 draw in the other quarter-final on Tuesday.
