"What you give is yours forever, what you keep is lost forever," writes the company about the play by the French-born Belgian writer and playwright Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt (1960), with stage version, direction and performance by Miguel Seabra, and original music by Rui Rebelo.
The action of 'Mr. Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran' takes place in Paris, in the 1960s. The story revolves around Momo, an 11-year-old Jewish boy who becomes friends with Mr. Ibrahim, an old Arab grocer from Bleue Street. "But appearances are deceiving: Mr. Ibrahim, the grocer, is not Arab, Bleue Street is not blue and the boy may not be Jewish," writes Teatro Meridional about the story that, "every year", Miguel Seabra and Rui Rebelo "continue to tell until their souls" get "tired". And they do it "with the same amazement (almost) as on the first day", writes Miguel Seabra about the play that the company has been touring throughout the country. Miguel Seabra, artistic director of Teatro Meridional with Natália Luiza, even launches a "challenge" to the public to go "dialogue" with the show, which he defines as "a melody on a 'slow-tonic' scale". With stage space by Miguel Seabra and Marta Carreiras, who also signs the costume, and original music and sound effects by Rui Rebelo, the play 'Mr. Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran' premiered at the Almada Theatre Festival in 2012, then elected Show of Honor by the public, which made it return to the event's program the following year, Since then, it has been regularly reprised and toured by the company on Portuguese and foreign stages. The new season of Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's play runs until the 26th. It has 13 scheduled performances, from Thursday to Saturday, at 9:00 pm, on Sunday, at 5:00 pm, and an extra performance, on the 20th, a Monday, at 9:00 pm.
