With this measure, the Shein application, created in China in 2012, becomes the 23rd platform, joining X, Google, Facebook and TikTok, among others, and will have to comply with stricter rules from August, when four months have passed since the decision, for the protection of consumers, namely minors, against illegal content, according to a statement from the Community executive.
The platform must comply, namely, with the obligation to adopt specific measures to empower and protect online users and to duly assess and mitigate any systemic risks arising from its services.
The Commission will oversee Shein's compliance with the Digital Services Directive, with the collaboration of the Irish media regulator Coimisiún na Méan, one of the four with whom Brussels has already signed agreements.
