Pedro Nuno e Montenegro made "bizarre" decisions for the European elections
Vital Moreira argued that there was no "convincing public explanation" for Pedro Nuno to decide to "fire all nine socialist MEPs in office". Montenegro, on the other hand, "decided to do without the safe value" of Rui Moreira and replace him with "a young and politically uncertain trendy political commentator"

Former MEP Vital Moreira described, on Tuesday, the decisions of Pedro Nuno Santos and Luís Montenegro for the candidacies of the Socialist Party (PS) and the Democratic Alliance (AD) coalition for the upcoming European Parliament elections as "bizarre".
In a post on the blog Causa Nossa, Vital Moreira begins by emphasising that on the PS side there was "no convincing public explanation" for Pedro Nuno's decision to "dismiss all nine incumbent socialist MEPs".
The constitutionalist pointed out that these are three former ministers and two former secretaries of state from previous socialist governments and considered that the PS has dispensed with "the rich experience they acquired in Brussels and Strasbourg".
On the AD side, Vital Moreira highlighted that Luís Montenegro "decided to dispense with the sure value of the president of the Porto City Council, Rui Moreira, as the head of the list, which was taken for granted by all well-informed sources, replacing him, at the last minute, with a young and politically uncertain fashionable political commentator, whose political record includes a candidacy for national deputy for the CDS a few years ago".
Vital Moreira considered that the "strange decisions can only be explained by ignorance about the demands of the European parliamentary mandate".
It should be noted that the head of the AD list for the European elections is commentator and journalist Sebastião Bugalho, while the former Minister of Health Marta Temido was the PS's choice to head the candidacy for the European Parliament.
