The words are from the Socialist deputy Sérgio Sousa Pinto, who 'co-starred' with Bugalho in the CNN Portugal political commentary space.

Socialist deputy Sérgio Sousa Pinto has praised the leader of the Democratic Alliance (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) for the European Elections, Sebastião Bugalho.

"It was a courageous and surprising decision by the Democratic Alliance (AD). It is always good to see politics with gestures of great boldness, daring and risk, valuing people of recognised merit", said Sousa Pinto on CNN Portugal, a channel where he shared, in the past, the political commentary space with Sebastião Bugalho.

The now candidate for the European Elections "is a person that the country knows, goes on television frequently, not to celebrate masses, but to have debates, he is always in permanent contradiction", defended Sousa Pinto, praising his "maturity".

"There have been criticisms typically Portuguese, that he is young, that he is inexperienced. Criticisms that have no basis whatsoever", he also argued, regretting: "It seems that when people assume responsibilities a little above what would be expected, the country makes destructive and devastating criticisms that make no sense".

The list of candidates for the European Elections, which will take place on 9 June, was practically closed last Monday, 22 April. The surprise of the night came precisely from the AD.

It should be recalled that the name of Sebastião Bugalho, 28 years old, emerged after several days of rumours that pointed to the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, as a possible candidate. However, several PSD/Porto members and mayors expressed themselves against the intention and, on Monday night, it was confirmed that the mayor had declined the invitation to join the second place on the AD list."

The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, justified his bet on Bugalho because he is a "talented young man" that the "country knows", defending that the journalist "will make a difference in the next European Elections", considering him "even controversial, who confronts, is disruptive, stimulates confrontation with democratic respect".
