Two Climáximo activists were, this Saturday, detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) during a slow march that took place on Rua dos Sapadores, in Lisbon.

In a statement sent to newsrooms this Saturday, Climáximo guarantees that it was "a peaceful and previously communicated march". A group of four people, aged between 22 and 48, started the demonstration at 11 am "against the destruction of life and in order to alert society not to consent to "the war that governments and companies declared against people"".

The group highlights that "several local passers-by and also some tourists showed their support for the group" with applause and that some people even joined the protest. Even so, Climáximo accuses the PSP of trying to "limit" the protest and of arresting two demonstrators.

The Notícias ao Minuto contacted the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, but did not obtain further clarification on the case.

Sara, one of the participants in the protest, guarantees that the demonstrators marched because "our parents and grandparents did not wait for the dictator to end the dictatorship and the colonial war. People resisted. Today it is the duty of all people to stop the war that governments and the fossil fuel industry declared against us".

"The Portuguese government has already given enough proof that it will not stop the acts of violence against humanity by failing to make the necessary emission cuts while temperature records are being broken", the spokesperson also assumed.

Climáximo also recalls that the "protest action takes place two days after the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution and a few days after Galp announced that the oil well discovered in January in Namibia will have a production equivalent to the national oil consumption of the next 143 years".

"We cannot consent to destruction", the activists assume.
