A young man was made an arguido, on Friday, by the Public Security Police (PSP) after pretending that his own mobile phone had been stolen, in Leiria.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the PSP reports that the 20-year-old man reported the theft of his own mobile phone worth 830 euros. However, when confronted by the officers during the statements, the young man ended up confessing "that the crime he had reported had not existed".

The PSP reports that everything was "a maneuver" by the young man to "receive compensation from his insurance company". Thus, the young man became a suspect for simulating a crime and was later questioned in a new process to ascertain all the details "that led him to that behavior".

The two crimes were registered and will be communicated to the Public Prosecutor's Office (DIAP of Leiria).
