National Union of Pharmacists confident after meeting with Minister
The National Union of Pharmacists (SNF) said today that the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, showed "a good receptiveness" to solving the problems of pharmacists in the National Health Service (SNS).

"There are a number of issues that were systematically being postponed and, for the first time, at least, it seemed to us that there was an effective will to look at things and try to solve them in an effective way", said the president of the SNF, Henrique Reguengo.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with Ana Paula Martins at the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon, the unionist considered that the meeting with the ministry "went well".
"A meeting is already being scheduled for approximately one month from now. Obviously, it is a month away, but the truth is that, if this one-month distance actually translates into something concrete, it is already much more than what we have achieved in recent years", he stressed.
"I am hopeful that, in a month, actions will effectively begin to be implemented so that pharmacists start to have the treatment they deserve in the NHS, and that users can effectively benefit from what we have to offer", he added.
In the meeting with the ministry, the SNF demanded the updating of the salary scales, the full counting of the service time in the NHS for promotion and career progression, the adequacy of the number of pharmacists to the needs of the public service and the recognition by the Ministry of Health of the specialist title.
The Minister of Health met today for the first time with the unions representing doctors, nurses and pharmacists, starting the salary negotiations demanded by the union structures.
