"The Ministry of Health did not commit today to setting the matters to be negotiated, the topics to be negotiated and the negotiation agenda by May 10, the day of the national nurses' strike", said the president of the SEP, José Carlos Martins, when leaving the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon.

The SEP scheduled a national strike for May 10, with a gathering at 11:00 am at Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon.

"The problems are so well-known and so serious, there are so many injustices and so much discrimination, that nurses want answers much sooner", he stressed.

According to José Carlos Martins, the Ministry of Health and the Government "did not commit to negotiating", among other things, the counting of points and the change to the nursing career.

"It did not commit to negotiating this, setting these topics, in a negotiation protocol, by May 10, which pushes us towards carrying out this strike", he stressed.

José Carlos Martins recalled, however, that the Ministry of Health has "the will to continue negotiating to set in a negotiation protocol the matters that exist", but "it is not compatible with the urgency that nurses have".

"No prospect of a new meeting was put on the table by May 10, and, therefore, we will go ahead with what is the demand, expressing the dissatisfaction of nurses, so that a solution to their problems is negotiated quickly", he argued.

The Minister of Health meets today for the first time with the unions representing doctors, nurses and pharmacists, starting the salary negotiations demanded by the union structures.
