"From our side, we have moved forward as quickly as possible, I cannot say that they are going badly, but I think that some extension will be inevitable, but there is no drama about it", said Miguel Albuquerque to journalists on the sidelines of the presentation of the Residential Unit for Elderly People project at the Missionary College, in Funchal.
This is a project in the order of 3.4 million euros (ME), developed under the PRR, which involves the requalification of that Church property, in the parish of Santa Luzia. The head of the Madeiran executive mentioned that the execution rate of the PRR projects in Madeira is around 60%, and 20% at national level. "These are funds that have to be used", he stressed, arguing that there was "a set of circumstances", namely the inflationary crisis and the increase in the prices of raw materials that affected the execution of the projects. Albuquerque also mentioned that, in order to respond to the waiting lists for nursing homes in the archipelago, the Regional Government has already launched tenders for "1,003 beds for residential units for the elderly", which represents an investment of 85 ME. The official added that the executive will also invest in the renovation of existing beds, having also launched tenders for an increase of 416 beds for continuing care. The island governor also pointed out that the emergency services of the health services in the municipalities of Porto Moniz and Santana will be reopened because the region has the necessary human resources for this purpose. Questioned about the presence of the national leader of the PSD and prime minister in the campaign for the early regional legislative elections, which will be held on May 26, Miguel Albuquerque assured that Luís Montenegro "can come whenever he wants". However, he added that he does not plan to extend any invitation to the national leader in this regard because these "are imminently regional elections".
