Armed with white carnations, posters reading "Sissoco Embaló Dictator" or "Marcelo side by side with a dictator -- April values oppressed in Guinea-Bissau" and black t-shirts denouncing deaths, arrests and kidnappings with a political nature, the activists started to gather mid-morning to raise awareness for what they consider to be a degradation of Guinean democracy and a Portuguese invitation that comes to "whitewash" the country's current political reality.

"Taking into account the political context in Guinea-Bissau of a dismantling of the democratic freedoms that were conquered, we thought that there was a need to make a criticism of the Portuguese state for an invitation addressed to the current President of Guinea-Bissau, Mr. Umaro Sissoco. Whoever is paying attention to the political situation is aware of the chaos that is being created at this moment, in order to allow him to continue in power", stated to Lusa Youssef, a Guinean activist in the diaspora and spokesperson for those who gathered today in Lisbon.
