"With this distinction, the institute intends to highlight the merit of the work developed by José Maria Neves in favor of the development of Cape Verde, first, for 15 years, as prime minister [2001 - 2016] and now as President of the Republic", since 2021, ISCE justified.

The distinction will be awarded to the Cape Verdean head of state within the scope of his visit to Portugal, to participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25, together with his counterparts from the former Portuguese colonies, at the invitation of the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

José Maria Neves will also participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25 in the municipality of Seixal, where a significant Cape Verdean community resides.

On Friday, Neves will visit Sines, where he will have an open conversation with the leaders of the local Cape Verdean association, meeting with the community and descendants and visiting the Amílcar Cabral neighborhood.
