The weather conditions for the last Thursday of April 1974 will not differ much in the northern, central and southern areas of mainland Portugal and even in the Madeira archipelago, where the sky will also be generally very cloudy, the wind will be light from the north, there will be good visibility and the sea will be choppy, with weak northwest swell.

Five decades after the military coup that deposed the old regime, a (new) Thursday is expected with much cloudiness in the north and center of mainland Portugal and little in the south, the wind will be strong in the western coastal strip and in the highlands, while a drop in the maximum temperature is expected, especially on the west coast, and a rise in the minimum in the north and central interior.

There may be some light rain in the northern and central regions, from the afternoon, especially on the coast, indicates the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), which, since 74, has been called the National Meteorological Service (SMN), National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG) and Institute of Meteorology (IP).

The clouds will also be present in Madeira and the Azores, but only showers are expected and weak in the central and eastern groups of the Azorean archipelago.

In Lisbon, where the military deposed the power led by Marcello Caetano, the air temperature on April 25, 1974, did not exceed 15 degrees Celsius and for next Thursday it should not go beyond 19º, according to data provided to Lusa by the institute.

50 years ago, the weather was being influenced by an anticyclone centered in Scotland and by low pressure, centered south of Spain, which brought an unstable air mass to Portugal.

Next Thursday, the change in the location of the anticyclone that has been conditioning the weather will bring changes, with lower temperatures, rain and wind, according to the IPMA, which, associating itself with the commemorations of the fiftieth anniversary of April 25, has on display "The Time of April, 50 Years Later - Meteorological Testimonials".

The "Operation End of Regime" was triggered in the early hours of April 25, 1974, ending 48 years of dictatorship in Portugal.

Dozens of commemorative parades are planned across the country and the weather will not be prohibitive.
