Health Minister accepts resignation of NHS executive director

"The minister has already responded to Dr. Fernando Araújo, thanking him for the communication and service provided, and conveying the acceptance of that request, which was submitted voluntarily and spontaneously", can be read in the note sent by the Ministry of Health this Wednesday.
It should be recalled that the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), who announced his resignation (and that of his team) on Tuesday, claiming that he did not want to be an obstacle to the Government in the policies and measures it deems necessary.
Although Fernando Araújo's communication spoke of a resignation together with the team, Wednesday's statement speaks of an "individual decision to request the issuance of the respective position".
Ana Paula Martins indicates that the termination of the contract will occur with the delivery of "the report of her activity (...) within approximately 60 days."
The Ministry of Health adds that "in due time, the solution for the Executive Directorate that will have the mission of carrying out effective reforms, including in operational management and the provision of care, which are essential to turn the page in defense of the SNS, and finally remedy the heavy legacy that so harms access, in time and quality, to health, especially for the most vulnerable people".
The executive directorate of the SNS started its activity on January 1, 2023, following the new Statute of the National Health Service (SNS) proposed by the then Minister Marta Temido, with the aim of coordinating the assistance response of all SNS units and modernizing its management.
