In response to Lusa, the Lisbon City Council (CML) highlighted that the president of the municipality, Carlos Moedas, today listened to the concerns of these workers and promised to analyse the situation of the electricians, who are on a one-day strike and gathered this morning in front of the municipality's headquarters.

"The indication that the municipality has is that the legislation in force does not allow these workers to be included in the situations provided for the allocation of the unhealthiness and arduousness supplement. Nevertheless, the matter will be analysed by the Lisbon City Council, which will meet with the Lisbon Municipal Workers' Union next week," stated the CML.

The Council stated that it does not have any figures on strike adherence, but stressed that, up until 12:00, the stoppage was not affecting the normal functioning of services.

On the other hand, the Lisbon Municipal Workers' Union (STML) indicated, at around 10:00, that the strike adherence of the electricians working at the Lisbon Council was 98% in relation to the shift that started at 07:00 and which includes around 100 workers.

According to union member Nuno Almeida, the building maintenance and public lighting services in the city were affected.

Today, the workers are carrying out a 24-hour strike to demand the allocation of the unhealthiness and arduousness supplement and, at around 10:00, they gathered together at the Lisbon City Council.

According to the union, the around 100 workers have been demanding the right to receive the subsidy from the municipality.

The STML has already made several proposals to Carlos Moedas' (PSD) executive, but the negotiation process has been suspended since January, stated Nuno Almeida.

Questioned by Lusa on Monday, the Lisbon City Council only responded that it is keeping "the dialogue open with the STML".

In November last year, the electricians gathered in Praça do Município to deliver a petition to the executive president in which they demanded the allocation of the supplement.

At that time, according to the union, Carlos Moedas assumed the desire to resolve the matter.

In the most recent meeting with the council executive, on 30 January, the deputy mayor of the municipality, Filipe Anacoreta Correia, asked the STML to legally substantiate the request, which the union did.

"In the meantime, we and the workers have not received any response," indicated Nuno Almeida, explaining that this led to the decision to "go ahead with the strike".
