The trial, which began on Monday but only with a morning hearing, has been repeatedly postponed due to the ongoing strike.

The source contacted by Lusa said it did not yet have new dates for the continuation of the trial.

At the beginning of the trial, the Climáximo activists, mostly young people accused of the crimes of "disrupting communications" and "civil disobedience", were identified by the petty criminal court and expressed their intention to make statements.

However, when he realized that each of them wanted to read a manifesto against people and companies responsible for what they consider the environmental collapse, the judge prevented them from doing so, arguing that it was outside the scope of the proceedings.

At the time, the defense of the defendants argued that the "process has to do with climate issues", but the judge did not accept the reading of the manifestos in defense of the climate and against those who threaten the planet.

Ten of the 11 accused activists who appeared on the first day of the trial claimed in their defense that they did not hear the PSP order to disperse from the scene. This version was contradicted by three PSP agents, who nevertheless had difficulty identifying the individuals to whom they transmitted the dispersal order.

According to a report from Climáximo sent to Lusa, more than 40 actions have been organized in the last six months, in which around 100 activists were identified by the authorities, 75 of whom were detained.

"There are 13 active cases, three of them with final decisions: one case closed, three cases with convictions, with a total of nine people sentenced to one year in prison converted into a fine with values between 600 and 1,600 euros per person. Trials are already scheduled for May due to the action at Cascais Aerodrome, for June due to the blockade of the Escola Politécnica street and for September due to the road blockade in Praça José Fontana and Avenida 24 de Julho", Climáximo said.

Regarding the trial of the eleven defendants in progress, Climáximo recalls that the "April Assemblies" program is also taking place in parallel, which has already included debates, conversations, lunch together, among others.

"In the action assembly, people stated that the consequences of not acting now are much more terrifying than any repression of current actions, and the priority measures of the 'Disarmament Plan' were defined for a 'great resistance action against the (climate) war that was declared against us', the same activists said.

In the meantime, more than fifty judicial officials gathered today at the Justice Campus in Lisbon to protest against the lack of response to their demands and expressed their desire for April 25th also for the class.

The president of the Union of Judicial Officials, António Marçal, stressed the expectation that the Government will respond to the demands for inclusion of the procedural recovery supplement, payment for overtime and filling of the staff.

"It is time for April 25th to come to justice and, mainly, for there to be an April 25th for the judicial officers. April 25th brought about great changes in the dignity of work and the rights of workers, therefore, it is time, in the 50 years of April 25th, for us, judicial officials, to also have the right to our April 25th", he stressed.

A gathering of union delegates is also scheduled for May 7th in front of the Ministry of Justice, in Terreiro do Paço, in Lisbon, between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm.
