The resolution of the Council of Ministers that "approves the Code of Conduct of the XXIV Constitutional Government" has been published in the Official Gazette.

"The XXIV Constitutional Government established as the objective of its Program the promotion of ethics and responsibility in public life and the widespread implementation of mechanisms that ensure the transparency and integrity of the democratic system, reinforcing citizens' trust in the institutions of the Rule of Law", can be read in the document of April 19, which argues that "the definition of clear rules that impose high standards of conduct on political office holders is a fundamental pillar of this goal".

In this context, the resolution "materializes and develops the principles and duties already enshrined in the current legislation". "It is also in line with international best practices, reflected in international and European guidelines, namely regarding the acceptance of offers of material goods or services and similar invitations or benefits", it is also defended.

In the document, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers reveals that "the contributions of the Transparency Unit of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers were taken into account, continuing the dialogue with other sovereign bodies, namely the Assembly of the Republic, regarding the measures to combat corruption".

This happened "in line with international recommendations and best practices, aiming to fulfill the objectives of transparency and integrity of the democratic system, reinforcing citizens' trust in the institutions of the Rule of Law".

"As the Government is responsible for approving a code of conduct that is applicable, it was decided to extend its scope, with the necessary adaptations, to members of the offices of the members of the Government, to all senior managers of the Public Administration under the direction of the Government, as well as to the managers and directors of institutes and public companies", concludes the document.

The XXIV Constitutional Government took office on April 2, following the elections of March 10 that gave victory to the Democratic Alliance coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), which won 79 seats in the Assembly of the Republic.
