The National Federation of Physicians (FNAM) has revealed ten "fundamental points for an understanding with the Government to renegotiate the medical career", which it sent to the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, and which it "will defend at the start of the first meeting of the negotiation dialogue scheduled for next Friday, April 26, at 11 am, at the Ministry of Health". In a press release, FNAM shares these points, "to resolve the urgent crisis in the NHS, in order to keep doctors in the NHS and guarantee the provision of health care to the population". The "reinstatement of the normal base weekly working period of 35 hours and the updating of the salary scale, the "reintegration of the Medical Internship as a category of entry into the Medical Career and the "implementation of progression in the remunerative positions in each category and streamlining of competitions" are the first three points on the list, followed by the "reinstatement of the 25 working days of vacation per year and the 5 additional days of vacation, if taken outside the peak season". In fifth place is "the possibility of early retirement or pension for doctors with 36 years of service or at 62 years of age without penalties", taking into account the "hardship, rapid wear and tear and risk of the medical profession". Then, the "normal work in the Emergency Department of a single weekly period up to a maximum of 12 hours", "guarantee with the current weighting of the patient lists, compliance with a maximum limit of 1,917 weighted units or 1,550 patients, depending on which is reached first, as well as ending the concept of non-user patient and ensuring the effective management of the family doctor of his list of patients" and the "possibility of a regime of exclusive dedication, optional and increased". Completing the list are also the "revocation of the ULS, Full Dedication and respective annexes of the USF and CRI diplomas" and the "autonomy of the legal regime of organization and operation of the USF in a specific diploma with immediate revocation of the Team Performance Index and the User Complexity Index, with reinstatement of specific activities and weighting of the list by age group". "We recall that the vast majority of these points are not related to remuneration, but rather to working conditions, which aim at the possibility of conciliation between professional and personal life, as well as the valorization and progression in the career", concludes FNAM in the statement, stating that "it is in the hands of the Government and the new Minister of Health to show openness to welcome these measures, from whom we expect competence and a serious negotiation, without backstage games, where FNAM will not accept loss of rights". The Minister of Health has a meeting scheduled with FNAM on April 26, at 11 am. On the same day, she will also receive the Independent Union of Physicians.
