Jorge Coelho, who died on April 7, 2021, at the age of 66, was a minister of various portfolios in the governments of António Guterres: Deputy Minister, Minister of Internal Administration and Minister of the Presidency and Social Equipment. From 1992, with Guterres leading the PS, Jorge Coelho was national secretary for the organization, contributing to the electoral victory of the socialists in the October 1995 legislative elections. Born in Mangualde, in the district of Viseu, Jorge Coelho was a businessman, but always continued to follow political activity, as a commentator on programs such as Quadratura do Círculo, on SIC Notícias and TSF, and also as a citizen. Jorge Coelho marked political activity by resigning from the position of Minister of Equipment of the executive of António Guterres after the fall of the Entre-os-Rios bridge on March 4, 2001, alleging that "guilt cannot die single". In addition to Jorge Coelho, the founder of the Rotary Senior University of Mangualde, Maria Teresa de Almeida Cruz, and the former mayor of Mangualde, João Azevedo, will also receive the City's Gold Medal. The Paralympic athlete Miguel Marques Monteiro will be awarded the Municipal Merit Medal, "for having distinguished himself in the field of sport, dignifying the municipality of Mangualde". The awards will be presented at the solemn session commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of April 25, 1974, in the auditorium of the Dr. Alexandre Alves Municipal Library. "After the pandemic, we wanted to wait for a truly important and symbolic moment, such as the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution, to pay tribute to these illustrious people from Mangualde who make us so proud, who have given so much to the municipality and to whom we owe so much", justified the mayor, Marco Almeida.
