"We will try to provide some answers, which have been requested, to the Portuguese who are spread across the islands of this archipelago and who have also presented some needs", said Luís Montenegro, during a meeting with the community, at the end of the visit to the archipelago.

The announcement was made alongside changes announced in the scheduling of visas, whose constraints particularly affect Cape Verdeans who are trying to emigrate or travel to Portugal, a topic that was always on the agenda, both on Saturday and today.

With regard to the Portuguese communities, "consular stays will now be carried out on some islands" thanks to the use of mobile equipment 'kits' for administrative acts, via the Internet, based on an itinerary to be established by the Portuguese embassy in Cape Verde, explained José Cesário, Secretary of State for Communities.

"I will engage in a lot of dialogue" with the Portuguese in the diaspora, he said, accompanied by the Councillor for Communities, classified as "an essential partner".

Listening to the needs of Cape Verde is part of a series of visits to be carried out by José Cesário, he added, with the purpose of "serving the Portuguese and serving those who have the most relations with the Portuguese, who are the peoples of the Portuguese-speaking world".

In an assessment of the visit to Cape Verde, Luís Montenegro said he was satisfied with the understanding between the two governments, recognising that "the path of recent years has been good. I have no problem in saying this in an absolutely calm manner. But there is a new government in Portugal" that wants "to go further, we want to deepen this relationship further".

"Today, Portugal invests in the qualification of Cape Verde's human resources, which is good when used here in the territory, but it is also good when they go to Portugal", he said, regarding the area of training, one of those on which Portuguese Cooperation focuses.

Montenegro classified the relationship as "a factor of competitiveness" that is in the interests of both countries.

"In addition to the entire path of our history and cultural sharing, today we can have a political and economic interaction that is then reflected in people's lives", he concluded.
