A Palestinian diplomatic source and a source from the Islamist Hamas movement said that delegations from the two factions were received at the Chinese Foreign Ministry and that "internal disputes" would be discussed, without giving further details.

Arab media reported the arrival of the delegations and said that the invitation to Fatah and Hamas to hold the meeting came from China after the country expressed interest in mediating the war in the Gaza Strip and supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The meeting comes after a meeting in Moscow between the two factions in early March when it was agreed to continue the dialogue to achieve national unity with all Palestinian forces within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), according to the resolution released at the time.
The agreement also comes after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made a change in the government of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) with a view to reforming it through a technocratic executive, which will take control of the Gaza Strip when the war ends.
This structural reform is one of the main demands of the United States so that the PNA can govern the Gaza Strip, although it is not part of the plans of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This week, the head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniye, proposed in Turkey the creation of a Palestinian state under the leadership of the PLO, when it is reorganized to accommodate all Palestinian groups.
"We called for putting the Palestinian internal house in order in two phases. The first would be to reorganize the PLO to include all Palestinian factions," Haniye told the official Turkish news agency Anadolu, during a visit to Istanbul.
"In a second phase, the unification of all the institutions in Gaza and the West Bank under one roof, allowing for elections to be held for the head of government, the legislative and national councils and the formation of a national government," Haniye continued.
The war in Gaza has been going on for almost seven months, after an attack in southern Israel in which Hamas militants killed about 1,200 people and took 250 hostages.
Israeli bombing and ground offensive in Gaza killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities.
