The European Union (EU) today increased its humanitarian aid to the Palestinians affected by the war by 68 million euros, given the serious humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the increased needs on the ground.

The new aid – worth €68 million and bringing the total to €193 million this year alone – will be channelled through partnerships with organisations already on the ground and is set to provide food assistance, nutrition, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as shelter support, among other things, a statement from the European Commission said.
Two more flights are also planned in early May as part of an EU-organised air bridge to deliver essential goods donated by member states.
The protracted humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate rapidly, with the escalation of hostilities following the Hamas terror attack against Israel in October 2023 and the subsequent large-scale Israeli military operation, coupled with the blockade of the enclave, having created a catastrophic humanitarian situation for its 2.2 million inhabitants, resulting in a high civilian death toll and a concrete risk of famine, Brussels said.
The EU has already sent more than 2,000 tonnes of aid on 48 flights via its air bridge since the start of the Israeli offensive.
