Iran rejects, condemns Argentina's request to detain Iranian minister
Iran condemned on Tuesday the Argentine government's request to arrest Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi for his alleged involvement in the 1994 bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association headquarters in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemned in a statement "the repetition of illegal requests based on lies and fabrications by some Argentine judges regarding Iranian citizens".
The diplomat reiterated that the accusations made in the case of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) against Iranian citizens "have no validity" and considered that "requests of this type to the judicial authorities of other countries have no legal status or validity".
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also advised the Argentine authorities to avoid making unfounded accusations against citizens of other countries and not to be influenced by enemies of bilateral relations between Iran and Argentina.
Argentina on Tuesday urged the governments of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, countries that the Iranian minister is visiting, to arrest Vahidi, considering him one of those responsible for the 1994 terrorist attack.
"Taking advantage of his trip, Argentina asked the governments of Pakistan and Sri Lanka to proceed with his arrest, in accordance with the mechanisms provided by Interpol," the Argentine Ministry of Security said in a statement.
Both the Jewish community in Argentina and the Justice system hold members of the Iranian government at the time and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah responsible for the 1994 attack on AMIA, the largest attack committed on Argentine territory.
Iran has denied any involvement in the attack and attributed the accusations to "plans by enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially the Zionist regime (Israel)".
