A 71-year-old man was rescued from a burning car on a Minnesota highway in the United States, and the footage has gone viral.

The video shows the moment a group of drivers, who had stopped to save the man, struggled to open the door to pull him from the vehicle, which was ablaze on the side of the road.

According to US media, the man had lost consciousness at the wheel. The SUV’s doors were reportedly unlocked, but the guardrail on the side of the road was preventing the group from opening the door.

That’s when an emergency responder arrived on scene, and was able to break the car’s window, allowing the group to pull the elderly man to safety.

“I am alive today because of good Samaritans and emergency responders who saved my life,” the man was quoted as saying by US media.

“It is incredibly heroic when people who are driving down the highway choose to put themselves in harm’s way by running toward a burning car to pull a stranger out of a vehicle that could explode at any moment,” he continued.

According to the media reports, the man suffered minor injuries.
