An emergency medical rescuer in Italy died on Saturday at the age of 57 after suffering a heart attack while trying to save a man who had suffered a cardiac arrest on the outskirts of Rome.
According to RomaToday, it all happened in the Monterondo area, where Roberto Campigotto was working.
A source from 118 (similar to our 112) told the Italian website that they received a call reporting a man in cardiac arrest.
An ambulance and a medical vehicle were immediately dispatched to the scene. While Roberto was performing resuscitation maneuvers, he felt unwell. Two more ambulances and a helicopter were called to the scene.
Despite all efforts, the rescuer ended up dying on the way to the hospital. On Facebook, his colleagues expressed their condolences.
"Roberto dedicated all his dedication and professionalism to the service of others, receiving several compliments from the people rescued. This tragedy should remind all citizens of Lazio of the dedication and sacrifice that the health professionals of Ares 118 put into their work every day, which is to save the lives of others, a job full of difficulties and which is sometimes not understood. Our deepest condolences go to Roberto's family and friends", reads the publication by Salute Lazio on social networks.
